Robert Wyald at House of Yes
Robert Wyald at House of Yes

Robert Wyald—like you, every moment a coordination of many efforts throughout time, including trees, algae, sunlight, plants, and humans—has moments as a producer, director, actor, artist, writer, guide and multicellular organism symbiotic with plants and microorganisms. As it seems that it’s always been a collective biological collaboration, we’ll continue with the pronoun we.

We have coached, directed, and performed in improvisational theater since the turn of the century beginning with BATS Improv and Leela, and we consider the values and skills of improvisation an amazing foundation for all things creative: let’s raise a glass to cooperation, presence, humor, and the uninhibited unconscious!

Many moons ago, Wyald earned a degree in Ecological Design from Stanford University and a masters from SFIA providing breakthrough exposure to methods for the imaginative process and a deeper relationship to the Earth.

We went on to co-create, produce and act in our own shows called Poetry Nap, La décadanse, and Knights of Revery.

As a graduate of Hakomi and other altered states training, we believe that we can explore our consciousness in playful and meaningful ways through improvisation and ritual theater in a context of compassion and mindful somatic awareness.

We work and play towards living in good cosmic relations with all species, waters, lands and skies on, in, above and below organism Earth.

A whole lotta gratitude goes out to our friends, family, teachers, all relations, and the grace of good luck.

We’re not sure if talking in the third person is royal, strange, or impersonal, so as a shift… I look forward to meeting you. So excited to explore together on our creative journey.

Don’t forget, this is always going on.

Jodie Wyald is a poet, storyteller, and performer. Her work encourages us to bask in delight, wander in wonder, meander through surrealism, and let go through unexpected humor. Prioritizing our interconnected relationship with nature, her work returns us to curiosity, kindness, and to a childlike kinship to the world around us. Through her lens, reverence and irreverence intertwine, inviting the audience into stories of fascination and peculiarity. Her inner hedonist wants everyone to experience pleasure and to pursue the delights of wit and whimsy. She invites you to come live in her imagined world—a world where beauty is everywhere, laughter is medicine, and weird, wild, and mystical adventures unfold.

Her current piece, Poetry Nap, co-created in 2017, weaves together poetry, storytelling, and music for a one and a half hour performance where she plays Lady Dosis. Crafted in response to our current world where political and cultural clashes burden our hearts and lay heavy on our minds, Poetry Nap provides a welcomed respite, a sanctuary of serenity and mirth.
